To anyone reading… Don’t change the AU/Collars number. I’m not good enough to flex that variable and keep others true.
Tool assumes square paddock size, which is conservative. Model math =
((lbs per acre of forage*utilization)/AU demand) = Animal Unit Days (AUD) per acre.
Then… 4*SQRT(Paddock Size*43560) = linear feet of fence on paddock size required, which should automatically flex with lbs of forage available and demand.
Then… Linear feet of fence * $0.02 (labor cost to set up and tear down polywire per linear foot of fence. This is a rounded version of $80/mile for desired moves which is where # of moves flexes).
This allows for a rough estimate of variable labor costs (no infrastructure) to move a 400 cow herd on whatever type of landscape someone is on.
